The NFL Project

Predicting the future of NFL Players' Careers

using advanced data mining and machine learning

This multi-semester-long project began as an exercise in my love of football and my desire to put my growing academic data science and data engineering skills to the test. I first designed and built the predictive engine entirely from scratch for an undergraduate Data Mining course, an experience I found both challenging and immensely rewarding: I was able to construct a complete data mining system on my own, from the ground up. I then carried the project into a graduate Machine Learning course, where I spent an entire semester substantially expanding and improving the system with ever more sophisticated predictive techniques. The result is a comprehensive machine learning engine that uses historical NFL statistics to forecast player career trajectories, including retirement timelines and future performance. This NFL project was created with a great deal of love and passion, and is perhaps my clearest demonstration of just how much I adore data science and predictive modeling.
