Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Orion Haunstrup, and I am a first-year master's student at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Data Engineering. I hold undergraduate degrees in both Computer Science and Honors Mathematics.
Outside of my formal education, I have spent more than ten years pursuing theoretical mathematics as a personal passion, developing original results and exploring challenging math problems.
I love programming and have experience with a variety of languages including Python, C, C++, Scala, R, Let, Assembly, and Basic. My interests include machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, and mathematical modeling.

My approach to software development is heavily influenced by my background in mathematics. I enjoy understanding why a solution works, not just whether it works. Whether building a machine learning model, performing exploratory data analysis, or writing code, I prefer to start with first principles and develop a deep understanding of the problem before searching for an answer.
For more than a decade, I have pursued mathematics as my life's deepest joy. I am drawn to interesting, complex problems and enjoy exploring questions that require creativity, persistence, and careful reasoning. The opportunity to venture where few others are willing to tread — and sometimes discover something truly brand new — is what continues to inspire my work.
